Binscope was created to help garbage men work more efficiently by predicting the fulness of the bins thoughout the city of Amsterdam. We project that fulness live on a map.
Binscope was commissioned by the department ‘Schoon & Heel’ from the Town of Amsterdam and assigned by ‘HvA’. We made an algorithm using real data, the design and a working prototype.
The algorithm looks at the filled in and predicted fulness of the past four weeks. It also uses the number of ip-addresses and calculates a busyness factor for a more accurate estimation.
The design was made according to the style used by the city. The bins are red when they are close to full to clearly indicate that they need to be emptied first.
We made a functional prototype to give an impression of how Binscope should work. The map is build and displayed with Carto.
We also added a panel to see the history of the garbage bins. It shows if they were emptied early, on time or too late.
